Willie Brown -

Godfather Management/Worth

BASA STAFF: HI

Willie Brown: HI

BASA STAFF: So what have you been doing since the World Tournaments?

Willie Brown: Trying to get caught up with work and spending more time with family. Fortunate to have an understanding wife at home. Also catching up on some much needed sleep.

BASA STAFF: How did you get started playing softball?

Willie Brown:  Started playing baseball at young age and the fire is still burning. After finishing playing pro baseball in the Marlins organization, I wanted to keep a bat in my hand and adult league baseball didn’t do it for me. Started playing with Robert “1-9” Jackson and you know what they say. Once you go BASA, you never go awayay!

BASA STAFF: And how long have you been playing?

Willie Brown:  About 8 years.

BASA STAFF: What teams have you played with?

Willie Brown: Fla Heat, New Image, US Vinyl, Colbert and now/Godfather Management/Worth.

BASA STAFF: Will you be returning to the same team you played with in 2005?

Willie Brown: Honestly speaking, I am not sure. I love playing with Godfather. But there are definitely options and I have to look out for family. But I don’t want to play out of airports either. And I love my BASA! The environment is incomparable. Plus the BASA tournaments are closer to home.

BASA STAFF: What was your most memorable moment from 2005?

Willie Brown:  Sending Team Stucco(#3 team in the country) home in the ASA A world championships with a walk-off homerun. And of course my last conversations with “1-9” and Kenny.

BASA STAFF: What was your favorite tournament?

Willie Brown: As far as atmosphere, it gets no better than the “1-9” Tournament in Tallahassee.

BASA STAFF: Who's your favorite player outside of teammates on the BASA Circuit?

Willie Brown:  Tossup between the 2 OF’s of Primetime JB and Kevin. The best 2 I have seen. They shut down 2/3 of the outfield.

BASA STAFF: Approximately how many BASA tournaments do you play in a year?

Willie Brown: Approximately 7.

BASA STAFF: What do you like most about playing on the BASA circuit?

Willie Brown:  The love that you get from your people. There is nothing like it. On the other circuit you’re a piece of a puzzle. Only thing that matters is W and L. And BASA is so much more.

BASA STAFF: What improvements would you like to see made within BASA?

Willie Brown:  Bigger complexes. Being able to play in the same complex with the other divisions. I would love to see Mo Bounce, Graystone, and BBQ and the likes there of play sometime. Also, so they can see us. There is a myth out there that we don’t play defense on the competitive level.

BASA STAFF:  What are your goals for the 2006 season.

Willie Brown: My body is starting to change, so I want to run more and be in better shape. I have made all tournament teams previously on gut check performances. I want to be in better shape for 2006.

BASA STAFF: Tell us something about you that most people do not know.

Willie Brown: Most people think that I am a total clown, which I can see why, I like to have fun. But I often wonder if they know that I am actually a middle school teacher at a conservative private school.

BASA STAFF: That is about it. We thank you for your time, any shoutouts!

Willie Brown: To all the Godfather Management/Worth  fans of the world. Thank you for your continued support.

For our 2nd interview in our series, #2 himself, "Church"
